  1. Hi Steve -- welcome! Like many, you may have found a home here in SoH -- we're seeded with many mature professionals and generally seek out good people rather than good gamers, know what I mean? I'm from "down south" myself (New Orleans, Louisiana) but currently reside under the snow in Minnesota (lol). I lived in Stratford-Upon-Avon for a couple of years and not-so-longingly recall the dismal weather. But like Minnesota, England puts on quite the show for when spring arrives. Flowers everywhere! One thing is certain, regions forced to deal w/ persistently icky weather know how to take advantage of nicer climes. I'm curious, does your wife game as well? My husband and I met playing Rift nearly a decade ago, and although we don't game online together any longer, we do both still game and continue to share that love. How about pets? Have you any of those? Cats, dogs, maybe a tarantula or two? We're pet lovers here and you're more than welcome to share pics of your furbabies-- in fact, it's required! I have 3 crazy cats: Chaos, Loki and Luna(tic) who keep me quite busy, hehe. Although I won't meet you playing EVE, hopefully we'll get to know each other on Discord or in another game somewhere down the line. Members of SoH tend to stay stuck, even socially if they aren't currently gaming. I've returned to GW2, play ESO sporadically, and enjoy co-oping the odd survival game like Raft. Simone will be along to chat you up soon (he's probably not had his tea yet xD). I look forward to meeting you!
  2. Hehe, I hear ya. I've use Feramoan or some odd spelling iteration for as long as I've gamed and while I always encounter someone having taken "Fera", no one has ever grabbed the "Moan" part (thankfully lol).
  3. Sweeeeeet! I'm simply delighted you've joined the fold \o/ Did you get on Discord? If so, what's your screen name so I can friend you purr-sifically ^^
  4. Fera

    Hello

@Grieve (he plays Destiny 2 as well, hehe)
  5. Fera

    Hello

Hello friend! It was wonderful to chat w/ you again after so long. I'm thinking..... since you also play ESO on occasion, if you have a guild spot open, how about I toss you an invite? Then I could invite you to our Discord and you'd be permanently connected to the gaming goings-on, etc. Sounds like a grand idea to me ^^ I'll terrorize you later in game, lol
  6. Hiya -- welcome to boards. In a minute I'll log into ESO and mail you a Discord invite (we also have mumble if you like that option), and I'll alter your forum rank so you have a bit more access. When you get a chance, peruse the Code of Conduct and 5 Dirty Words posts so you know where we're coming from -- most of it should be a no-brainer ^^ If you have any questions, etc., you can DM me here or on Discord. Currently we have groups in EVE and WoW, and ofc our itsy contingent in ESO. I won't be around too much while summer is still in full swing (I work an insane schedule through October, then game during the cold months lol). Feel free to join multiple guilds in ESO, esp. a good trading guild or two. If there is a co-op game you like and want to find a partner or group for, you can post something on boards or the #gaming channel in Discord. I look forward to gaming with you!

    Oh Hai

Hi Xella! Welcome! I, personally, am overjoyed to have you on board. Your mom & I have been pals for years now (and yeah, she's awesome!), so I know you'll fit right in. In the short time I've known you, I can say that you definitely inherited her "hoot" gene (lol, b/c of the funny ^^), and I look forward to grouping w/ you again. I'll change your forum status to Recruit for now, and barring anything weird, Member promotion will occur in a couple weeks. Make sure you peruse and either sign or comment here in this thread the Code of Conduct. It's generally a no-brainer for most peeps ^^ Also, I know you have your own Discord, but let's make sure you get set up on SoH discord this week if your mom hasn't done that already.
  9. I love this idea, thank you Grieve. \o/
  10. Hi War, welcome! I don't play Dest2 but I hope you'll engage all of us on Discord -- maybe we'll play a different title together someday ^^
  11. Founded in 2005, SoH was established as a gaming community for mature players to enjoy exploring MMOs together. Since then we've branched out to include other types of games as well as different platforms. The stability and longevity of our community is due in large part to our vetting process, which is a two-way street. We ask all prospective members to vet us while we, in turn, vet them. In so doing you will discover that the SoH community is very-much a friend-first group of gamers. Essentially, we choose each other with which to play. And while we believe that real life comes first, gaming is the best hobby there is! In SoH, we play lots of different games and are comprised of people from all walks of life. We're proud of that fact, and we guard it, and them with great fervor. If you're new to our community we ask that you get involved so that you can get to know us, and we can get to know you. For like-minded gamers, this will be a piece of cake (and this cake is not a lie!) Step 1: Read our Code of Conduct. While we take this document seriously, it's generally a no-brainer for like-minded gamers. There's no need to sign this, but we ask that you comment on it in your Introduction. Step 2: Go to the Public Access section of our forums and write an Introduction. Tell us about yourself and please include something regarding the CoC, i.e., do you think you're a good fit based on what you have read? That's it! Easy! Now all you have to do is grab a Discord invite and join in the fun \o/ Active groups (Cohorts) you're welcome to join: Destiny 2 2 weekly scheduled raids and 1 old content night. Lead: @Hyna EVE 1 weekly scheduled fleet, multiple ad-hoc roams throughout the week. Lead: @Simone World of Warcraft 2 weekly scheduled raid nights. Multiple other group events throughout the week including M+, transmog runs, and more. Lead: @Estarriol
  12. Hi Codex, welcome! We have a small contingent in lotro and are very casual with group nights (usually 2x a week). The Nomads (our group name) will remain in that title for at least another month, possibly 2 or even more, but at some point we'll meet to offer up new game options on which to vote. If you want to stick with us -- terrific! You are entirely welcome to suggest a new title and then offer a brief pitch (here on forums) for it. I'll alter your forum rank momentarily so you can poke around a bit and get to know us better. You'll find we play lots of different games (and sometimes on other platforms). Our gaming community leans to the larger side but we consider ourselves to be a tight-knit community, and too, not everyone participates in all titles (or it would be a madhouse! mwahahahaha) Anyway, Simone will hook you up w/ Discord and Mumble info at some point. He's at work so probably won't be able to do that till this evening. I look forward to chatting w/ you! p.s. I forgot to mention that SoH has been a thing for nearly 14 yrs now (esp. in MMOs) with Chapters in practically any one you can name. Many of our players stick around year, after year, after year -- b/c we foster an actual community environment, one that is inclusive, generous and friendly. SoH is a safe haven for gamers from all walks of life and we'd be honored if you chose to become a resident Member as well. \o/
  13. Hi Jerome, pleasure to meet ya -- and welcome! Your forum rank has been altered so you can poke around a bit and get to know us better. Once Elend has you hooked up w/ Discord, feel free to join the ongoing conversation in #social -- everyone is welcome (and several people yap throughout their work day lol). Please take a moment to familiarize yourself w/ our Code of Conduct and 5 Dirty Words if you haven't already; you'll find them in Public Access. Pretty easy stuff really, but if you find yourself saying, "ruh-roh, Scooby" just give Elend a head's up ^^ Have you any pets? If so, feel free to post pics! South-East aye? I'm from New Orleans myself, but moved to Minnesota a couple of years ago. I'm still acclimatizing to the winters but have generally found it to be a positive change ^^ Have fun gaming!!
  14. We strive to select membership that naturally contribute to our community, and thus we have few rules. We do, however, have certain core values with regard to behavior. They are as follows: No drama. Games are a leisure activity and our Members prefer theirs without anger, petulance or ugliness. If you're not able to resolve a disagreement with another member, speak to a Game Officer. Ongoing improvement. We are not a hardcore guild and have no playtime requirement. We do, however, play to win. As such, Members are expected to improve their individual game play and teamwork, and be open to (as well as provide) feedback to their peers. Sportsmanship. In PvP titles, we are tenacious, but civilized. We do not harass or "grief" our opponents; we thank them for a good fight. Remember that your actions, even when you are alone, reflect on the entire guild. If you choose to behave poorly, you have made that choice for all of us. Fair play. We believe in abiding by each title's EULA; the use of 3rd party software not permitted by said EULA to hack, cheat or bot is strictly prohibited. Likewise, abuse of most bugs and exploits is grounds for dismissal. If you are unsure as to what constitutes an exploit in the context of the game you're playing, please see a Game Officer. Friendship. Everyone is expected to treat each Member of SoH as a friend, including being social in-game and in Discord. Minor things like greetings or query responses go a long way toward creating the type of atmosphere this guild is about. Always put guild-mates first when planning your game activities. Community. By holding these core values, we create and contribute to a community that transcends individual titles. We strive to be inclusive of any and all peoples and eschew those who demean others on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, politics or religion.
  15. Founder This is an honorary title bestowed upon past and present members of the Leadership Council who have demonstrated the highest commitment to the guild through ongoing leadership and participation, with particular emphasis placed on the ability to organize Chapters or large Cohorts over a long period of time (generally, one year plus) with sustained and successful recruitment efforts. Only a Founder may nominate and promote an individual to this rank. Key Responsibilities: see Leadership Council (below) Tenure: Founders are considered lifetime appointments. Leadership Council The Council is the primary governing body of the guild, and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, managing guild infrastructure & tools, and developing the next generation of guild leaders through support and mentorship. Attaining a seat in The Council requires Veteran status for a minimum of 1 yr and is awarded to an individual who has actively engaged w/ the community on multiple levels, including but not limited to leadership, and has demonstrated deep understanding of, and commitment to, the guild's values, principles and ideals. Chapter Leads are ex officio members of the Council during their tenure. The Leadership Council has sole discretion over promotion or demotion of Veterans. Key Responsibilities: managing guild infrastructure & tools, cultivating the Veteran corps, providing strategic leadership, and developing the next generation of guild leaders. Tenure: LC members are considered lifetime appointments, at the discretion of the Council member. In-Game Leadership Any Veteran has the ability to step up and request in-game leadership responsibilities to help ensure that SoH provides an enjoyable, engaging and high-quality gaming experience for our members. The most common in-game leadership title is Game Officer. Further Details can be found in Official Chapter/Cohort. Veteran Veterans are established and reliable members of the guild who are trusted to act as ambassadors and collectively take responsibility for guild membership. In order to be considered for promotion, an individual must be an actively engaged Member in good standing for at least 6 months, such that s/he is easily known and recognized among the existing Veteran corps. Any Veteran may suggest a Member for promotion to the Council. Promotion requires an official nomination by a member of the Council and must then be seconded by another Council member. Key Responsibilities: cultivating guild membership by direct recruitment, assisting with leadership of Cohorts or Chapters, onboarding new Recruits (participation in intro posts, answering questions, etc.), providing feedback on Recruits, and nominate / 2nd promotion of Recruits to Member. Tenure: Vets are encouraged to actively game with us, but there is no requirement to do so. Veteran rank may be suspended or removed by the Council if there is no communication or activity after 2 years, or if the Veteran's conduct suggests that he or she can no longer be trusted to serve as an ambassador for the guild. Member Our lifeblood - this is everyone! We exist both for and because of our amazing Members. The role of Members is to play games, have fun, and get involved in the community as much as possible. Our communications tools, such as Forums, Discord and Mumble, are available to enhance your gaming enjoyment -- please use them! In an effort to continually foster a close-knit community, we strongly encourage Members to remain involved in the gaming community, whether or not they are actively engaged in current Chapters or Cohorts. Members are welcomed to participate in multiple Cohorts. In that case it becomes the Member's additional responsibility to ensure that there is no discernible negative impact on any one group or Cohort. Membership in multiple guilds is also generally permitted (note: In-Game Leadership may choose not to allow this, for example in highly competitive titles). However, the decision to play a game where there is already a guild presence without also joining that guild presence is typically viewed as a decision to leave our gaming community and will result in dismissal. Key Responsibilities: making the magic happen by playing games with the guild! Members are always responsible for their own behavior and are expected to carry themselves in a way that is consistent with guild values, principles and ideals. Your guild is your extended friends & family and you should always interact with fellow members in a way that honors that relationship. Tenure: Members are lifetime appointments provided the individual continues to interact w/ the guild through gaming, forums &/or Discord. Members are expected to join Cohorts &/or Chapters and play as regularly as life allows. Inactivity (which includes the absence of communication) will result in the Member being purged after one year. Recruit New players who are in the process of being vetted (and are vetting us!) with an eye on promotion to Member via our revised 2-Veteran voting system. Please see our Recruit to Member Overview post for details on this process.

    Hello

Hi Gary -- welcome! I like your intro post, thanks for sharing That lil darlin' must be the light in your life! From Texas, huh? I spent 50 yrs in New Orleans and moved to Minnesota 2 yrs ago ... haven't missed the heat (or humidity) even a little. Do miss the food, though. And the people. Music too come to think of it, lol. I'm not an FPS gamer (vertigo), but I love me some MMOs (although not WoW). What other MMOs might you have played? I hope you find SoH to be a home-haven for your gaming needs. We like it and have tended it well for 14 yrs now. Great group of people from all walks of life -- some new, some old (haha, me!) and at least one gamer 10 yrs my senior ^^ I'm going to alter your forum rank so you can poke around and see who we are. Make sure to check out our Code of Conduct and 5 Dirty Words (in Public Access). Grieve will be along any moment and get you set up on Discord and/or Mumble. Happy gaming!
  17. Hi there Jon, nice to meet you. Welcome! Nomads are SUPER casual so no worries about the 2 on/ 2 off thing. I'll go ahead and alter your forum rank so you can poke around boards a bit and get to know us better. Simone, our lovely Nomadic leader, will set you up w/ mumble (which we prefer for voice-over) and discord (which we prefer to use for more immediate chat needs). I'll also jump online and toss you a kinship invite from one of my non-Fera named toons lol. Quick question: favorite snack food? Have you any pets and would you be willing to share pics? Cya in game!!

    Hi there

Wow, Xena is BIG! lol love it My mother-in-law recently adopted her 2nd Irish Wolfhound. His name is Kodiak, or Kodi for short (and has the face of a lil bear, so cute!) Shadow, her first, passed a couple of months ago. He was sweet and calm. The puppy, Kodi, is adorably sweet... and a lot less calm lol <3 First pic is Shadow, age 5, 150 lbs -- the 2nd is the puppy, Kodi ^^

    Hi there

Hi Cluboris -- welcome I've altered your forum rank so you can poke around some. Do that and try to get a feel for who we are ^^ While, as a large gaming community, we are very diverse when it comes to people, places, and "all the things," we are generally of a single mind when it comes to attitude. We have a Code of Conduct and abide by the precepts found in 5 Dirty Words. As an adult, I doubt you'll find either problematic. If you do, please advise. The Nomads group is super casual so no worries. We have no hard and fast rules regarding anything, esp. playtime. RL always comes first in SoH, regardless of what game is being played. On to the fun stuffzzzzz...... pupper you say? Name plz! And posted pics are greatly appreciated! What area of the country are you currently in? Are the leaves changing? Will you get snow eventually? (I live in Minnesota, so yeah -- snow will eventually fall, and continue to do so for some months :|) What's your favorite pizza topping? Football or baseball? I look forward to grouping w/ you in lotro! Cya soon

    Greetings

Hi Rojdan, welcome! I've altered your forum rank so you're able to poke around a bit more. Do that and make sure to vet us in the same way you might with any group of online strangers (^^) With 14 yrs as a gaming community, we're finding peeps continue to like the way we do things. Many of our members have been with us from the start, and pretty much everyone struggles w/ the same time-crunch you describe. So, take your shoes off and relax! You won't get any stern looks from us, lol. Grats on the Piled higher and Deeper (well, almost ^^). That's a ton of work and deserves a hefty dose of approbation. So does raising children while getting an education, lol. We use these forums, and likely always will, as a means of scheduling, storing game data resources, and as a means of recording the history of both the guild and its members. We are a very open minded bunch of noodle-heads and I'm delighted to learn you've read through our bits and agree with our basic ideology. Again, welcome! We use Discord as a means of instant communication (many do so from work, lol), and as VoIP for those who prefer it. Mumble, however, is the VoIP preference for the Nomads. It's fiddly, to be sure, but once you've done the Audio Wizard and one of us has registered you, it's basically hands-off / stress free. I look forward to gaming with you!
  21. Well hello Fern! Glad to meet you Our "Nomad" group does sound like a good fit for you (and many of us, hehe). Tell me, if you don't mind divulging personal bits on the internet, how do you make your gold in RL? Have you any kids or pets? (mega pet lovers here in SoH lol) What other hobbies, besides gaming ofc, do you enjoy? I'm Fera! I'm currently not using any of my education and working a seasonal job at a gallery/boutique and having a ball, lol. My hubs n I have 3 cats: Chaos, Loki and Luna(tic). All bad. xD All loved <3 SoH has been an active gaming community for going on 14 yrs now. We're a large and very varied group of people with a deep respect for community, and for the people in it. Whatever it is you bring to table, with the exception of ass-hattery, we'll embrace it, and you, so no worries. I'm sure a couple others, including Simone, will be along to pester you. Join in on the fun! Ask us what you will and vet us, too ^^ Cya 'round!
  22. Hi Foss. Welcome! Delighted you found your way here. I don't play Dest.2 but I know a few of the folks who do and you're in good company there and with the larger community. We've been a gaming community nigh 14 yrs now and are proud to call ourselves "home" to a wide variety of gamers. If you feel comfy with our CoC, you can count yourself among them! I'm sorry to hear about your accident; that totes sucks. What have you a mind to study if/when that presents itself as an option again? And what's your favorite pizza topping? Are you a thin-crust or deep dish kind of guy? What about the FPS fusion gaming genre excites you the most? Feel free to post pics of Toby in your thread! We love us some pets in SoH! <3
  23. Grieve has been promoted to the LC -- the full list of Council members now includes: Ashin, Fera, Midri, Darlantan, Huntyre, Tyrlis, Rohj and Grieve
  24. The SoH LC is delighted to announce that Grieve has been inducted into the Leadership Council and is the first official inductee since re-imagining our structure earlier this year. The SoH LC now includes: Ashin, Fera, Midri, Huntyre, Darlantan, Tyrlis, Rohj and Grieve. Grieve came to us as a Recruit in 2013 when I recruited him into the Guild Wars 2 Chapter, and he's continued to be a loyal, active presence in SoH ever since. In addition to his tireless efforts in leading Destiny 2 over the past 8 months, Grieve has exhibited notable loyalty and commitment regarding the larger SoH gaming community. He's done this by organizing Game Nights and by doing something no one else has (at least not with such gusto or consistency) -- and that is organizing community meet-ups. It's also worth mentioning that SoH had not really considered FPS-fusion, or any type of non-PC games as serious contenders for our "official" roster prior to our re-imagining of guild structure, but the Cohort experiment regarding Destiny 2, which has now been converted to a full Chapter, has permanently changed that. On our horizon there are numerous titles, many on console, that now comfortably fit within the purview of "official" status for our gaming community. Congratulations Grieve! You've earned it ^^
