[EVE] Thor the mighty! (It sounded cool)

Hello all! :) Thank you for the privilege of possibly joining your fine corp. A buddy and in-game mentor of mine began looking for a new home recently, and I decided it was time to make a change.

About Thorsten Scott.. He's a three month old Omega character almost 8mil SP. This is my first MMO (former GTA/COD nut). Started looking for a strategy game like the old Unification Wars and found this insanity instead. The learning curve is steep, but I love the challenge (ENTJ-A) and the social atmosphere.

Right now, my main focus is establishing the character, learning as much as possible and farming ISK for skill injectors and my overall expensive habits.

I have some PVP experience and am learning as quickly as I can (mostly by getting blown up in cheap stuff and examining what went wrong, or by asking 59 questions). I've flown in a few fleets and have a basic understanding of etiquette, terminology and following commands. I love strategy. I'm willing to fly whatever the corp may need (would fly a griffin or Blackbird with pride) but I do like to get in there and do damage/get on the killmail too. I like to watch things melt.

That being said, I also have an ever growing interest in PVE and I'm currently training into the Tengu, to see where that magnificent beast takes me. :)

My favorite "owned" ships are the Orthrus, Garmur and Hecate (though the Orthrus has been limited to plexing and belt-ratting.. Don't have the gonads OR the savvy to fly her into combat yet, but I couldn't stand NOT flying that thing). Caldari and Mordu's Legion are my main loves as far as ship aesthetics go. Brawling is my main form of PVP right now (Hecate), but kiting is awesome to me and I prefer it.. Trying hard to learn it effectively.

Ship I aspire to own and fly: Chimera. It was love at first sight. So big and sexy! I have to fly that thing someday, though I have no idea how useful it actually is on a normal basis. Basically (like real life, ach) I like the big shiny things by default (but plan to use and loose them well).

My favorite forms of Isk generation are ratting and mission running. Currently in FW and plexing can be fun too, especially for baiting fights, but it's more of an Isk generating thing for me at this point, as my current corp isn't too concerned with actually fighting the war lol (Gal Fed is dying). Would love to get into more PVE with some peeps who might be interested.

I have an alt named Boss Thompson. His bio reads: "I came here to make ISK and chew bubblegum.. And I'm all out of bubblegum". He's a PI alt who makes Robotics and moonlights as a hauler. My plan is to turn him into a master PI/hauling alt someday.

I'm sure there's a lot I haven't covered, so feel free to ask any questions you want! :)

About the man behind Thor:

I'm 27, no kids, not married. Have traveled the country quite a bit, am a musician and songwriter, crackpot astrologer who can't decide if it's dumb or not, thinker, former motocross racer and part-time adrenaline junkie. Metal was my first love, my first tape was Ozzy Osbourne's "Just Say Ozzy". Metallica changed my life and taught me how to perform. I also enjoy country, Prog (Rush FTW) and a little alt rock.

Your corp name had me sold from the start (SLAYER /,,/).

I enjoy cheeseburgers, pizza, wine, single malt whiskey, tacos, women and IPA, in no particular order. For work I am a contractor, primarily working on software that is FDA compliant specifically, either on the design or the paperwork/validation/testing side. Now that I'm back home in Michigan I'm looking for something a bit more steady, particularly a path to management.

I'm not sure what else to put here and feel I've gone on waaay too long, so thank you again and I hope to fly with you all soon! :) o7

I can understand why you do that, but the Orthrus is a fantastic PvP ship... it's like you're using a Ferrari to deliver pizza. :)

Just one more, right? Then you're swearing off injectors for good!

I just need to ensure you're pronouncing 'Heck-ah-tee' correctly!

back home in Michigan

Nice, Yooper or LP? I grew up across the lake in Appleton.

You'd think such a detailed app would be able to avoid random questions but... nope!

Tell us about your first killmail.

Do you prefer dystopian or utopian settings?

Is any of your music uploaded somewhere for us to check out?

Dude. This is a great question.

Hi Thor!

It sounds like you've been jumping in head first.  That's very nice to see.   Excellent intro post.  I just have one question because while some think with their heads I think with my belly - favorite taco?

Sounds like as good a reason as any.  Welcome to our forums - Plyn mentioned you might be stopping by.

From the info covered by your intro post, you seem like you'd be a welcome and interesting addition to our crew.  But I have to confess that we're not actually named after the Slayer song.  Assuming you're accepted to the corp, remind me to link you to the thread where we explain the actual thinking behind the name.  It's "deep" ish ...

There's no shame in flying the Blackbird.  You may not get to use Mordu ships *too* much out here - they're imbalanced state generally dissuades people from fighting them, so we usually don't roll with (m)any.  A garmur is usually welcome in most roaming or home defense fleets, provided the pilot can handle her!

So I think it's great that you're interested in following your friend and mentor.  But have you had a chance to look into our corp or alliance to decide if it will actually be a good fit for you?  Have you spent time living in deep null-sec?  For example, there are no missions out here.  But we have more-or-less the most lucrative ratting the game offers.  You'd probably want to think about a VNI->Ishtar for that, although your Tengu can be fit to run escalations, which is profitable!

Fair enough! Once I get specialization skills where they need to be, she'll be ready for action.. I feel like Vin Diesel in the Og F&F.. One day that Charger is gonna roll, then subsequently get shot to hell. "You still owe me a ten second frigate."

Exactly!

Yep! What's with everyone's ignorance regarding the Goddess of Witchcraft?

Nice! Nothing like a freshwater ocean, eh? LP here, or as the Yoopers affectionately call me, "a troll".

My first killmail. i went on a roam with a good buddy of mine named Sheo, in my spanking new Heckatee! We took down a Vexor and it was the funnest thing. Was all clammy for a minute!

That /is/ a good question.. I'd say somewhere in the middle. Dystopia sucks for most people involved, while Utopia would be boring (unless you're a carebear).

Negative on the music, at least for now. It's all on various hard drives.

Also... Is that a frickin' RPG?! That my friend, is bad ass. 8)

Balls deep, my friend! Thanks for the compliment. Favorite taco would have to be Carne Asada on flour tortilla with cheese and sour cream! (Upon further reflection, however, I have to change my admission to chimichangas lol).

Welcome.  So where are from?

PS:  I also like IPA.  I'm a homebrewer and just kegged my Darkness IPA.  Will be trying it in a few days.

I am from southwest Michigan! Close to your country, but far from SK! Recently moved back from California.

Nice! Best of luck on the brew. My fave is Two Hearted Ale. Ever try it?

Ah, cool! I'll definitely remind you, if so. (Still might blare the song in battle though lol.)

Awesome! I've seen them unleash hella damage, but I must say I'm not quite there yet in terms of skill. Have to get the manual piloting thing nailed down. Do you guys usually run shield or armor fleets?

To be honest, I haven't been able to find much information on your corp besides what you guys said on Plyn's post. I'd love to know more, if you can point me in the right direction.

Also, I've spent 90% of my time so far living in WH space and LS, so Null will be a new experience for me. I've read and watched some videos on null, but I know that only goes so far. Maybe I'd have to rely on you guys or Plyn a little bit to get acclimated. I'm a quick study though! :)

Thanks for the tips on ships as well. I'd be content with ratting and escalations, maybe even some cloaky exploration someday.

Here's a run down of alliance philosophy:  http://bladesofgrass.space/philosophy.html

Corp is ran much the same - mature adults with common goals and teamwork.  We have fun but not generally at the expense of others.  We don't rage on comms or talk smack in local.  That said, it's a great group of folks.

That said, as with any group sometimes personal favorites take a back burner to needs. Want to fly the chimera? Sorry alliance says to fly revs (an example not necessarily the case) or perhaps it will be a bunch of armor ships when you prefer and are skilled into shields.  You don't seem like the kind of guy to rage quit over small things but it can be an adjustment .

As for following your mentor, I think Ashin raises a good point. My first several years in Eve were following a group of friends and often where we went was not my cup of tea but I sacrificed what I like to hang with my eve buddies. It wasn't until we went our separate ways that I really began to appreciate the game (and met other awesome folks).  I'm biased and think SOHCO is great but come because you want to not because a mentor headed our way.

Anyway, you seem like good people so I look forward to flying with you my wall of text aside :p
