Zyco
and as for other specs of warrior filling those other possible classes out is wrong.. you can make berserkers use only leather and have all types of different abilities and use maybe a class only kind of weapon.. barbarian would use medium armor and have different attacks as well.. and finally gladiator would be a weapon specialist also using lighther armor.. save plate for wars. Same thing with Rogues, let them be the master of the consistant DPS and have Assassins be spike dmg based off pure stealth abilities and nightstalkers would be able to also use short bows or crossbows and rely on camo to fit in/hide. Natualist would not be a druid, at least not in D&D and other fantasy games. The could use only natural weapons and armor (so leather and simple weapons) and maybe be able to have an animal pet to help them in differnet ways... Yes, a Psionisist or Mentalist would be a cloth wearer using mind type spells for control and or domination. Its been hard to use a psionic type character in games before, but most since DAOC have dealt with the dmg they do as mental dmg and it acts the same as fire or any other type of elemental damage. Ashin
I have been missing out on a fun thread! Threat started a feisty one. On the one hand, we have Glyff's point that they are refining and balancing the classes they have, rather than adding new ones. But I think Zyco's counter-point is a strong one: why weren't they balanced a year ago? Shouldn't we be ready for something new at this point? People view new classes differently. For some it is not a big deal, but for others it is really the heart of an expansion. For example in Guildwars that is a major aspect of what each expansion is: two new classes, new skills for them and for the existing classes, and a ~40 hour campaign to play through. In interviews Blizzard said that basically what they think fans want is just more of what WoW already is. So they were not interested in adding many new features or anything like that. Basically they feel the numbers prove that WoW is a super popular game exactly the way it is, so their idea for the expansion was to give people 10 more levels' worth of exactly what they had from 1-60. You can interpret that how you like. Some will read that and say "great.. I love WoW and I get more of it now" while others will react like "so basically you're saying you're going to charge me for the same-old and I don't get anything new?" It all depends on the individual. Personally I can see why Blizzard took the stance that they did, given their current success. But Guildwars has gotten me more into Zyco's mentality of making lots of different characters, etc, and especially for the competitive/PvP aspects, providing new classes is a big part of what keeps the game going. P.S. xvim I cry inside mourning the loss of your old avatar

Xvim
about the same as last. i noticed that mobs in SM were getting a Hollow's End Fear debuff that slowed move and attack speed for a few sec after hitting me.
Hyna
How's the Halloween event this year? same as last year. It seems from your suggestions zyco that you like games based in more DnD type lore, which is cool. I like that type of lore. At the same time you have to remember that WoW doesnt take anything from any type of DnD lore( to an extent). WoW is a good blend of Diablo 2 and Everquest. Every class in the game plays differently enough to play it to at least level 40. Just from what i have seen of GW it looks like a MMO diablo. I would love to see a new class in the game, but i dont see to where as they need one right now. Just reading the stuff they're adding is amazing. They're trying to render alot of the problems/complaints that people have. No more honor grinding, the arenas, tons of world pvp objectives, god awful amounts of instanced content. They are attempting to lessen the gear gap between players. People are replacing there high tier gear with greens from drops in the outland zones. I will agree though...the vids that were linked in this thread look like crap, but those were from alpha. http://www.thottbot.com/beta?qu=10139 Quest from the outlands that will replace any tier 2 chest that one may have I know i tried showing the tier 4 sets a while back with some SS,but here is a vid....nerf the lock set imo. http://www.warcraftmovies.com/stream.php?id=29640
Zyco
Every game has gotten most of their rules, spells, armor and weapons and all the basic things from D&D lore. Pretty much LoTR and D&D gave us all we need for fantasy games, so when looking for new ideas for a new class thats where they would look. Ashin
Well, EQ1 definitely based its setting on DnD, altho I think the rules are actually quite a departure from it. And then everything based itself on EQ1, except for a small handful of games.
Zyco
DAOC (man I am saying this games name alot lately) went in its own direction and I dont think followed anything EQ. DAOC and AO were the 2 most inovative games since EQ1.. sad isnt it that they both came out in 2001 and nothing really new has happened since then
