  1. I've explained it many times, how NY/NJ have come to say gravy (which is correct).  Ashin, glad it takes a total stranger danger (sorry, potential new BFF) to make you see the light.   :p

To be clear, I have not "seen the light" - I continue to reject the use of the word gravy to describe tomato sauce.

(In fairness, I should mention that most Indian cooks and chefs also refer to their tomato sauces as gravy.  So the NJ/NY Italians are not alone.)

  2. First, obligatory youtube response to this

I work very hard so I can play even harder.

But seriously you sound super motivated and active - nicely done.

If Inedit stops by this thread, she will be so happy to find another person that calls sauce "gravy".  I'm convinced that only New Jersey (or possibly Tri-state) Italian-Americans do this, and I refuse to accept it!  Even so, we'll have to compare notes on cooking techniques and raid leadership in Cata some time. ;)

I should probably ask game-related questions.. um, what's your favorite way to spend time in EVE?  How did you find your previous corp, and what drew you to them?  What do you hope to find in SOHCO?

  3. Welcome.  What got you interested in EVE?

I'm impressed that you made the leap from Hi-sec mining to Null so early in your career.  What got you motivated to do that and how did you settle on NAGA?

What's your favorite food to eat?  What's the best food you can actually make yourself?

Looking forward to flying with you. :)

p.s. our forums may be a bit more active than what you're used to with other corps / guilds. :D

  4. Well that was a very strong response - I'm impressed!

For the record, tho, I was not questioning your loyalty.  I was making a connection between your character name and the batman character in the Lego movie. :D

  5. Hello!  Chibi mentioned that she had convinced a friend to play.  As long as she will vouch for your identity, you are more than welcome to join us. :)

I'm headed to sleep, but we should be able to arrange a time to get you into the corp soon.

We will need to think of some key tutorials and basic training exercises for you two.  EVE's learning curve is very steep, but the game is also very rewarding once you get comfortable with how it works.

  6. In the past, our guild retained very strict control over what constituted an "official chapter".  The primary motivation behind this strictness was a concern for: (a) the reputation that SoH projects, and (b) the type of people we take into our family.  The latter is of particular concern for a multi-game / multi-chapter guild.  It's important that all members be comfortable assuming that a guildmate from one chapter has been held to the same standards that they were.

In more recent times, we've had difficulty pulling off the massive chapters that we had in the past.  I think this reflects on two things.  First, we're all getting older, and so the time we spend in games (and how we want to spend that time) has evolved.  Second, the market has stagnated.  We don't see a lot of innovation, but we do see a lot of horribly mismanaged launches.  So we have become somewhat nomadic in recent times.  In fact, this is similar to how the guild was in its earliest days - a small, nomadic tribe.

The previous definition of an official chapter included a 9-month commitment from the would-be Chapter Lead, and only official chapters were permitted to recruit.  Unofficial chapters made no such promises or commitments, but were limited to recruiting friends and family of existing members only.  The latter was viewed more as a membership privilege than any form of actual recruitment.  Lastly, only official chapters qualified for title reinstatement (Friend->Member, Ghost->Vet) or promotion (Member->Vet).

This definition has become outdated and cumbersome.

The decision to acknowledge a chapter as "official" will be a matter of judgement for the Founders.  Factors we might consider could include:

    - Number of Vets playing the game together

    - Regularity of scheduled, group activities

    - Activity of the group on the forums

    - Presence of a member with previous Officer or Chapter Lead experience

    - "Virtue" of the title / how it does or doesn't fit with overall Guild objectives

With this subjective but more flexible definition, small but consistently active groups could qualify for official chapter status.  The size of the chapter is irrelevant, and the nature of the group's commitment to the game is less important.  There must, however, still be a designated Lead.  The Lead must agree to be accountable for quality standards, ensuring that the chapter is managed in accordance with the highest standards of the guild.  The Lead must also ensure that the chapter is eventually retired, when these criteria are no longer consistently met.

  7. All:

Today I announce a promotion so special in nature that it has never before happened in the history of the guild!

After much thought, I've decided to promote Fera to the Founder rank.  I was so impressed by the Chapter she built in Guildwars 2, and this thought had been on my mind since then.  She exudes the SoH ethos without effort, yet she managed to combine that with a steady pragmatism.  Despite our being two very different people, we've always been able to work seamlessly.  I think that's because we ultimately want the same things for the guild, and that's what makes this feel like a natural step forward to me.

Will there be more Founder promotions?  What are the criteria?  I have not decided.  It's likely to remain a highly subjective thing.

And, while it should go without saying, I'll make clear that this is in no way intended to diminish the crucial role of our active and former Chapter Leads.  They, along with our GO's and Vet's, are what allows the guild to be so stable and to cover so much ground.
