  1. The big map and the fact that masks move across it slowly put an even bigger emphasis than usual on good situational awareness and team positioning. Knowing when the next mask will spawn should prove to be a huge advantage if you can manage to put yourself within spitting distance of the spawn points the moment one does. It's a good reason to hold the center of the bridge, if you can manage it.

Think of it this way: If you're chasing to catch up to someone who is carrying a mask to their base away from you, then they've already outpositioned or outrun you. Time to think BG meta-strategy!

  2. This may shock some of you, but I'm totally on board with this version of capture the flag. I've done about a dozen of them now, and the mask-stealing aspect plus the more open nature of each team's base really sets this bg above WoW's WSG and TP for me.

  3. DAoC? *perks*

    Hello there! =)

I'm not in GW2 much anymore (tho I will be there this Saturday) but I'm sure I'll see you around. I couldn't get into some aspects of the game but I do enjoy some WvW.

I have to ask. Alb, hib, or mid?! Choose wisely. :giggle:

  4. The build I've really been digging at 70 is a bit of a light show. If you don't like trying to see through a ton of effects, you might not want to roll with it, but it's amazingly fun.

    Electrocute (Arc Lightning)

    Black Hole (Supermassive)

    Mirror Image (Duplicates)

Energy Shield (Prismatic or Pinpoint, depending on your Toughness needs)

    Magic Weapon (Force Weapon)

    Meteor (Lightning Bind)

    Passives are...

Blur or Glass Cannon, depending on Toughness (If you can't afford Glass Cannon but don't need Blur, then you can grab whatever you want. Maybe Audacity since you will spend at least a little bit of time up in their grills)

    Prodigy

    Paralysis

    Evocation

The idea is to get a black hole and two meteors onto a group of mobs, then about a second after your black hole fades, hit mirror image. Your images will then cast black hole, further CC'ing everything, and you can use your cone Electrocute to build up more AP via Prodigy for further meteor action. Evocation is really important because you want to be able to put out black holes (via both yourself and your images) as often as possible; all my offensive paragon points are in cooldown reduction as well, and it's a huge help. You're also putting out so many individual lightning hits that Paralysis becomes really really good. If you can swing it, I would take the last three passives in the list above until you can grab the fourth at 70. I think you get the Supermassive rune at 62 or 63.

Once you get into the rhythm of the build, it's extremely powerful; but misplacing a black hole can really, really hurt sometimes.

  5. For Hunt, since we were talking about this in the chat room.

Leveling up I really liked using:

    Spectral Blade (Thrown Blade)

    Arcane Orb (Arcane Orbit)

    Energy Shield (Prismatic)

    Familiar (Sparkflint)

    Magic Weapon (Force Weapon)

    Teleport (Calamity)

Then you'd probably want Blur as a passive, unless you twinked out with some marquise+ amethysts. The passive that snares by 80% on arcane damage was pretty helpful as well, though I forget what it's called. What really helps though is taking Arcane Dynamo; that way every single Arcane Orbit will have the buff.

The nice thing about this build is that you don't need to worry about arcane power or any kind of cooldown reduction; you can just focus on damage and toughness, which is great while leveling, since you can generally just craft things until you roll a socket (or use the mystic).

Just cast Arcane Orb every time you run out of orbits, and spam SB as much as possible. I wouldn't want to use this build at max level since it is pretty simple and basic, but for leveling I highly recommend it.

  6. I'm so sad to hear that your final raiding days in WoW had to come down to DS! :( Although I can't feel too badly for you if you raided during a lot of the earlier content that I never got to see. ;) I have to say that I was so fortunate to begin tanking in that tier (DS). It was like training wheels for when I dove into the meat-grinder known as MoP 25H tanking... and with what was widely considered the worst tank at the time! The numbers even BEAR that out. ha. ha. ha.

I don't meet other Bear tanks that often, so I absolutely had to hop in and say... grawrl... <cough> I mean welcome!

  7. I looooove those cross-stitches! I mean, aside from the fact that anything which includes imagery from Final Fantasy 6 (yes, specifically 6) automatically earns full marks from me. ^^

And oh yes, the eternally extant GoT thread with the titanically terrible title. It's all there. :p

    Welcome aboard. =)

  8. Hi there! I'm not playing GW2 at the moment, but I went through my own deal with my PTT key a couple years ago. It might sound crazy, but I settled on Caps Lock. Yeah, you'll type some things in all-caps at first; but if you go this route, pretty soon you'll get used to glancing at your caps lock key as you start typing.

Caps lock is one of those keys that doesn't make much sense to keybind in game, but for PTT it works out well. If you're using PTT you're less likely to need to type, so even the initial typing-in-caps problem is mitigated there.
