  1. That kind of thing is loosely how I always envisioned account hacking happening, until learning a hell of a lot more than I ever wanted to based on recent events.

(The "gives you a piece of mind" phrase made me giggle a bit at first, then it started to bug me; now, I need to point it out or I'm going to burst.)

  2. Oh, MEME! I had never actually seen it written out before, but I'd heard it used hundreds of times and had gleaned somewhat of an idea of its meaning. I was reading the word and hearing "Mimi"; I imagined the word might be some kind of internet creation describing a type of undesirable forum behavior, as ironic as that is.

I see what you mean about every example of a meme coming to mind being political though, Relent. The first three or four I thought of were, lol.

  3. It has some to do with burnout too, in my experience.

I also don't think that a person venting their own problems with their class denies any respect to those who are enjoying it. I wouldn't fire the class designer! :p but fair criticism of the elements of the class one is playing shouldn't make anyone else feel slighted.

It can go a bit far sometimes (you know who you are! Mr. Magus from WAR! ...If you look at the boards anymore...) but I usually sympathize with people who are frustrated with their class, especially if they have played it long enough to have a legitimate beef.

  4. That sucks that things are so bad for you Bisc. :( Myself, I am a compulsive healer. I see myself having little problem with spamming 1..2..3..1..2..3.. as long as the group is making progress, but I know I'm certainly in the minority (again! ;)) there. I wouldn't expect many others to have an easy time with it.

I hope it gets better toward fifty, not that I know anything about the progression that high up. From what I've seen in looking at class skills, though, there seems to be a lot of new stuff even through the high forties. Does this not really apply to the cleric's heals?

That stuck feeling is always a very bad sign for me. It usually means I go through a phase of logging on, running around in circles for a minute, and then either logging off to do something else or going to play an alt. I always wanted to play a high-RR stealther in DAoC, but I'd inevitably get stuck during leveling and not want to put forth the effort (they were no fun in PvE, either--and no one wanted them in their groups, to boot).

Here's wishing you luck! I hope things turn around for you soon.

  5. Not alts! Till changed his mind and wants to play a Chanter. I made a sorc to help ;) and once we catch up to my cleric I'm switching.

Also, we HAVE alts. Don't you remember? (Templar/Ranger) :D

  6. Hey Tay! Thanks for the comm. :)

We had company last night, and long story short, it went on much longer than we expected. We'll be on today in a bit.

Also, Till is leveling a Chanter now. We're trying to book it up the levels (I'm assisting with a sorc) to catch back up.

  7. Rawr! At first I was set on the Chanter. More recently I've been set on the Cleric. Today, after thinking about a gigantic Chanter guide I plodded through last night, I'm so not sure. Chanters = DAoC Friars, but even more fun, as far as I can tell.

Oh and Tillana is going to be a Sorc. We discussed this!

  8. Ahh that brings me back to before SoH. Searching blindly for guilds to join in games, somehow always being the person random guildies would bring their personal baggage out to... meeeemoriiiiies...

  9. Without even going into categories, Magestorm was the one game I had the most fun playing, ever. It was a FPS with RPG elements including character developments and four classes. It's difficult to explain what made it so exemplary, but some factors are: amazing class design and balance, addictive match goals (there was only one type of match, and there was never any need for more), satisfying death cries ^.^, equally satisfying character goals, quirky arena maps with uneven but ultimately equal team shrine (base) positions, the challenge of both outfighting and outsmarting the other teams... I'm still a complete sycophant years after the game was shut down! Awesomely [sic], a couple of the former players are re-developing Magestorm, doing a hell of a job and still going strong. They had a beta open a couple months ago which was pretty impressive.

    ANYWAY--

My favorite--and first--MMO was definitely DAoC. Just as no FPS has captured what Magestorm had, no MMO has captured what DAoC had with RvR. The fundamental RvR gameplay was just way too good. In my opinion, supported by what I saw with WAR, baking up an elaborate and epic RvR system doesn't mean much if the day-to-day gameplay doesn't offer you enough basic fun.

My first RPG was FF6, which remains both my favorite Final Fantasy and my favorite console RPG. Dragon Age is an absolutely fantastic game, but it will have to pass the replay value test in order for me to rate it up there. I did love FF7 when it came out, and appreciate what it did for the console RPG genre; but when I went back to play it a couple years ago, I just found the whole storyline to be weird and strangely unappealing. FFX was fun, but my favorite part of it by far was the big character advancement track thingy (I love that kind of stuff!) I found the main character to be a whiny little bastard though, which soured the story somewhat for me, and after a while I started cracking up each time someone said "You know?" as if it were a standalone question with its own meaning.

Sooooo, that's the stuff I grew up with!

[Look Ma, I wrote a gigantic post at work without losing it!]
