  1. All I need is love, bby! ©Flip

You actually gave me the answer to the other question I was considering asking, Ashin. ;) I've kept up with things enough to be aware that the game punishes level difference and that leveling itself is a huge undertaking.

I know I would be able to do it (not play catch up, but eventually work my way up there). I can't imagine that it would be any worse than solo grinding a wizard to 50 in DAoC before the first expansion came out. Even if it takes longer in Aion, it won't be due to pure downtime, which is a colossal mental drain. I think the major MMO's that started coming out after DAoC, and even DAoC itself after a while, got rid of resting for five minutes after every few mobs.

What is really going to convince me to come back is if I decide at some point that I can devote enough time to make it all happen, ORRRRRR possibly if they implement a mentor system. Hell, if I waffle long enough I might just resub to participate in legion chat.

(It took me long enough to reply that there is even more stuff to reply to now!)

I definitely appreciate the info. lol @ all the Chanter love! That is actually pretty enticing. They almost sound like they are Aion's mirror of DAoC's friar, only people actually want them in groups.. and I love classes that make you do two things at once (thinking DoK). Cleric is my bread and butter, though; hmmmmm, food for thought.

  2. That's my problem, though! I enjoy nearly every class. :p

I'm gonna need something extra to help me stick with one beyond just enjoyment, strange as that seems. lol

And Tillie is definitely getting that hug, regardless of anything else. :D

  3. (I was about to post this in the 1.8 patch hints thread, but at the last moment decided to be nice and let it find its way back on topic)

Have things shaken out enough with the game that it's clear which classes will be in the most demand, both in the guild and in the game at large?

I keep thinking about the Aion more and more, but I don't know if I'm going to decide to play in another week or in three months.

I always attempt to play every archetype in every MMO, regardless of the knowledge that I'm always best as a healer. Maybe being in high demand would help me stay focused!

  4. It scarred us all... I also think it's worth pointing out that Shrouded Isles came before ToA and didn't have anything to do with the abject failure of its successor. :p

The leveling weapons would be just one similarity to ToA, and ultimately a benign one at that. Aion already has a reputation for its grind; having to level weapons shouldn't really faze fans of the game.

  5. Shrouded Isles anyone? There you had to level artifacts...here you level equipment...sheesh.

    Trials of Atlantis. <shiver> <knock on wood>

I have to knock on wood because I don't want to jinx Aion by invoking the expansion that was so bad Mythic introduced new servers with an alternate ruleset for people who wanted to make new characters just to get away from it. -- (The "Classic" servers, as they called them, ended up with the highest populations and activity.)

Of course, artifact leveling wasn't even the worst part of it, and I doubt that Aion would even require you to fight different types of mobs to level up different types of weapons. I would assume it would just be a simple grind, if the rumor is true at all.

  6. Always plenty of extremely non-savvy internet travelers on these mammoth MMO's. They'd have a much harder time accomplishing anything with methods like that on a less successful title.

    That's what I think.

  7. bleh, best one I could find:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="

    name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
    &" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

[After 4th edit: I LURNED YOOTOOB TAG!]

  8. Definitely not a solution for a guild like ours I'd have to say, but for a guild that utilizes different ranks of membership with regard to who can benefit from guild resources, who can access more "perks" as they put it, etc., this looks like a pretty solid system.

  9. I'd be careful about it! One month is an awfully long time in an MMO. Remember Dark Crag :p

Now there doesn't appear to be any danger whatsoever of that happening here, but there are a lot of moving parts and other variables.

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade. :thunder: Just don't want anyone to spend over $75 (tax?) and then not use the whole sub!

  10. I think my point is just that I think its cool we're somewhere between 20-40% female in our chapter. That's a lot higher that most guilds, which are lucky to have a token female, or two.

Also we see this chapter has our oldest demographic yet! But in general the guild has aged together lol. So, I think for a prospective member looking into us, these little tidbits are informative.

But also I think certain groups tend to suffer undue abuse in online games, so being estro-friendly or manlove-friendly or familyman-friendly is a selling point, IMO. People can feel like they are part of competitive team without needing to go to a demographic/gimick guild (ie there is an all female competitive pvp league in Aion, etc.).

For the record, I of course agree completely. In my opinion we display our XYZ-friendly attitudes constantly, and I apparently thought some awkward humor was in order. Cheers!

  11. And all of the GG's we have are very easygoing with a sense of humor!

Au contraire Ashin, I think you are the one trying to be protective. :)

[Edit: Additionally, I was trying to get you to provide the context within which someone like me would say such a thing :D]

  12. I wasn't trying to make a broader generalization that wimpy/feminine people play squishy/support classes... though now everyone's going to get mad because I used wimpy with the word feminine... there was a slash there! Slash means 'or'!

    LOL!

That sounded like something straight out of "Everybody Loves Raymond", if Raymond played MMO's.

Anyhow, I do like playing a healer because at least I know that I will never be in a group without a competent healer. I learned that lesson really quick starting with a game called Magestorm back in the '90s.

  13. We all want to be in game instead of at work!!!

My entire last month, defined in this quote. Work is so incredibly slow lately, and I have been addicted to Dragon Age, Borderlands and WAR.

Popping in to say hi again! Carry on melting poncey Elyosian faces.

[bonus note: I looked up ponce on dictionary.com because I wasn't exactly sure what it meant and got a huge kick out of definition #2. It's not actually very apropos in this context, but I thought I'd share it with you.]

    ponce

    1.a pimp.

    2.a campily effeminate male.

  14. Just clarifying two things:

    - pook I'm not including you in the tally b/c you're not playing Aion atm

    - flip I'm not including you in the tally b/c you have a peen

So unfair. My hopes are crushed!

  15. I see your point about the CE wings not being a factor in the endgame, as opposed to how important they are now. It's the now factor that had me a little miffed, I guess.

BCO was definitely a lot of fun. I still hate that we had to run into so many wankers farming the end boss. lol

Anyway, I meant what I said about being bi-polar about the game. My feelings about it are certainly not all negative, and I will almost definitely play again at some point! Hope to see you guys then~

  16. By that logic its not fair to pay for a faster cable connection while others have to suffer through dialup. Like Ry, I liked this CE b/c I actually got something which I perceived as "useful".

Absolutely apples to oranges. You can't compare CE to a cable modem with a straight face, lol. This is a lot more like being nickel-and-dimed on a phone bill, sans the recurring nature.

I'm not sure why this is a sore spot, but it's not even the biggest reason I'm not renewing.

Anyway, go get 'em in the Abyss. I know you guys will melt their faces.
