  1. ha. ha.

I have to laugh at the choice because it just seems like such a very bad idea. I'm surprised a seasoned game company wouldn't find a better process for the server merge name consolidation issue.

But... Anyhow, one thing I wonder if they considered is they are going to have a hard time getting folks to reactivate assuming their name is likely going to be totally gone from what I understand. Even If there is no other Aela (or Erian..or... anything) on the other server, my name is still not safe. I can't log into the other server and "save" that name. I never do that, but I know A LOT of folks that do.. But now, anyone can log in and take it away.

While this is something that is understandable from a game that has been out years and when someone hasn't played in over a year or more, the name can be "taken" (for example, Aela on MM in eq2 is a level 10 or something Mystic that hasn't logged in since the first week of the game..with no other chars on the account).. But for something that has yet to be out a year, the fact that you can lose your identity (and in most cases, will) for any account that is off, and most accounts that are still on... is definitely an issue going forward for the game.

I would guess all (except for the very few lucky) of the "well-known" players on all servers will lose their identity. It is just too likely that joe-schmoe (no pun entended Joe :p ) will get a kick outta logging in and stealing names on their alts. Mordrid will definitely go to someone else (unless the powers that be intervene on his behalf), but so will most all other names of "top players" or "well known players" on the server.

I can totally understand this being a major issue. ...I laugh only because I'm blown away that it is actually being considered as a good idea.

  2. Not like WoW (but who would want to play WoW?), but you can make it next to ugly and be good to go. We can run EQ2 in "Mudmode" on our backup-backup systems (two upgraded PCs ago). THe problem being, your wife will want to play on your system, and you will get her old one ;)

  3. Have a safe move, our move was stressful, I'm sure moving across the globe is even worse!

We'll see ya (back around the boards) when you get settled!

  4. This is actually something people have been doing for a VERY VERY long time. It was happening back when we would be out doing LC or MM and the solo gankers were running around killing people at Alsig Village. They would run a second version of Aion, at the log in screen. Once you get engaged in a battle you can not win (and can't run away from), you hit enter on that second log-in and BOOM, your character poofs from view. Thats how the level 46+s could run around Morhiem without ever being sent home. They would be kisked, and if their kisk was ever found (unlikely),t hey just crashed themselves out of the game, and would log back in later that day, or the next night.. (They would either level after zoning over..ie the level 46 SM that was killing people for a couple weeks straight... or they would hold their "there and back again quest equivalent until they were 50th).

I'm surprised you guys hadn't ran into it until recently. It was happening in Morhiem nightly weeks and even months ago.

edit: oh and the fix is very easy. Just make it so that your character says in the game would (attackable) for a few mins after you "crash". It is what most MMOs do... some allow you to log back in, others force you to wait till your guy logs out before you can come back in. I would think in a PVP game keeping the char online for 1-5 mins...but still allowing you to "reenter" the game would be the clearly obvious solution. However, apparently not as obvious as one would think (since NCSoft hasn't done anything about it ) ;)

  5. No, my first "real" computer game was Diablo, and I didn't find that until my final semester in school. Prior to that I had only used chat rooms that were mostly just glorified boards/forums. A good friend of mine used ICQ and Powwow (I think?), and i used that some.

I didn't pickup eq1 until after i had finished my degree.

  6. Yes, Ry ran raids while doing his PhD coursework. I'm not sure how he did that. If I go back to school I'd have to take a simi-permanent vacation from gaming. I always say, it's good they didn't really have MMOs when I was doing my undergrad. I would have failed out of school so fast....

  7. I think the issue that some are taking with this is not that it was brought to light, but how it was written. Tone doesn't carry well unless you are a wordsmith, which, most of us are not.

I completely agree  That's why we all have to take everything we read on message boards (and in email) with a grain of salt, and realize that it is highly likely we are reading something in to the post that the author didn't intend.

  8. Actually if Joe is running into this issue in Pickup groups, it is easy to assume other members might as well. Therefore it would be appropriate to assume the general forums are the logical location for this discussion.

  9. Thump that bible. Yup. Also no liquor or wine in grocery stores but that all politic now.

Here in Tennessee where the great Jack Daniel's is distilled...you can't buy it in the county they make it. It still a dry county.

When we lived in TN, I wanted to make a bourbon apple cobbler. I couldn't find any bourbon. I went to the next town over. No liquor there either. I finally asked someone. They told me i would need to drive to KENTUCKY to buy my "hooch" (with a serious face), "we don't sell that booze around these parts".

  10. Yeah i talked to Magar.. he moved off MM to AB for some roleplaying. He is thinking about moving back now.. of course he has all crafters at level 90, so... that would be alot of cash

  11. Yes, you can move servers in eq2. It's $50 from what i understand. Ask tayomi, she's done it a few times i think.

Also, while setting up a SoH is fine...I'm not sure if there are enough SoH people playing eq2 to warrant a guild. If there are, it would be definitely worth considering. We also have our old guild in eq2 (it's been on MM since the game came out), and our old friends who are in another guild have invited us to join them (in guild or raid) if we wanted to. But for now, we aren't..since they are all near level 90 :p (we aren't sure yet what we're going to do in game..I know ry doesn't want to "run a guild".)

  12. Sure, feel free to move it. Definately makes since to move it over there.

We'd definitely be amicable to working with anyone in SoH that is interested in playing eq2.

  13. Ry and I talked about the correct place to put this post. He ended up putting it here because in the past there have been other posts of this type in this forum. You are free to move it. (I told him it might need to go in the Aion forum)

And, yes, I'll be going to EQ2 as well. Ry doesn't speak for both of us in his total rational for the game, however in the end (while i enjoy PVP more then he does), I LOVE EQ2, and will be quite happy to return there.

I currently duel box a Mystic and a Dirge on Mistmoore (Anari and Kaelia). However, I would rather not duel box. I started doing it on the test server because of lack of active bards on the server. I'm planning on only playing one of the two actively this time around, I just haven't decided which.

  14. (Also, Fixed a couple of them texas ones for you:)

You know your from Houston when:

Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're twelve months old. (our daughter)

There are only four spices: salt, pepper, picante, and cream gravy.

    You call salsa picante.

You pick where to goto dinner based on the quality of the tea.

You don't have "uppty" attitudes like them folks from Dallas or Austin.

You believe that every type of food tastes better either wrapped in a tortilla, deep fried, or both. (and then topped with gravy)

The dominate professional sports teams are the Texas Longhorns and the Aggies.

You are afraid to go downtown because green air scares you.

You like your air green and your water brown.

All schools close, and freeways shut down when the forecast is 30 degrees with a slight chance of flurries.

Despite having 95 degree temperatures and 90% humidity 11 months of the year, you think it is reasonable to built outdoor sports stadiums.

You don't understand how people don't see the phonetic R in Kuykendahl (KIRK-in-dahl).

Humble is a virtue, Humble (Um-ble) is a city.

If it is under 2 inches it is an ant. If it is over 2 inches it is a cockroach.

Parking lots are resurfaced to fit hummers and suburbans.

Your in laws (cough) own two pairs of shoes. Work boots, and formal boots.

    Hurricane watching is a pastime.

    Ron Paul!

The "farm-to-market" roads have seven lanes (stolen from a website, but so true).

You have attended a wedding where the wedding party wore their formal jeans.

You think "King of the Hill" is a documentary about your neighbors, in laws, or both.

  15. So Ry and I were talking today and he reminded me he had a conference sometime in March...in Dallas. Then we realized it was March!

We pulled up the information, and... ...well he has a presentation on Thursday (March 4th)! (This discovery was followed by a collective "Oh &%$*" from both of us)

We're leaving for Dallas tomorrow evening after his class, and won't be back until late Saturday or sometime Sunday.

Boy are we glad remembered today to check the conference dates ;)

    $40~!

hmm, if it was for every character, I was thinking that I would get it for Rei's account. But I don't know if one pair of wings is worth 40.00!

The wings are also only for level 40+, so keep that in mind.

    $40~!

Oh yeah, it looks like something that they should be doing to their website. I personally don't think $40 is a "good deal", but i do know some people will pay it. I'm waiting for my 6 month wings, and I don't use dye.
