I agree AO was innovative. But how was DAoC not another EQ1 clone at it's core? I guess the RvR pvp added a lot to the mix, but the essential concepts were the same I think. I also now have to add Guildwars to my list of innovative games.. and actually that one is so different that I almost can't even call it the same kind of game as EQ1 (and this is a nice thing).

My opinion (and was talking to Cyrus about this) is that gaming is such a huge industry now that its become Hollywood-ized.. meaning ppl plug things into a formula and figure this will make xxx $ because these kinds of games are so popular right now. I think only a few ppl are actually trying to make games, per se.

DAOC brought about unique classes, unique specing system, RvR (pvp for the masses), Battlegrounds, 3 factions each with their own unique flavor, further character development with alternate ways to level your characters to make them more powerful, gear and weapons with a durability (so you cant keep 1 weapon forever)

I can go on and on if I think about it more, but I must say DAOC added alot to the MMO world.

Also, videogames bring in more money than movies! and cost MUCH less to produce.. I cringe at the day of $100 million dollar budgeted games. But it seems PC gaming is dying and more and more people are buying up consoles every few years, PS3 is supposed to be in the $600 range and the producer of sony said he expects it to be relevent for 10 years at that price. I really doubt that, unless they are allowing chip/memory upgrades.
