I became aware of SoH years ago when ArchAge first launched. I got my farmstead up and running and found myself neighbors with a friendly and chatty Fera and she told me all about SoH!
This is actually kind of adorable.
Also, I approve of your avatar.

Wow - I never would have guessed Exile was a boxer and a volunteer at the local hospital. I clearly know that he drinks Apple juice through a sippy cup, tho.
lol @ my iPhone forcing me to capitalize apple

Yay, Exile! (Valence B. here, but most people in the guild know me as Ashin.) Awesome to see you here.
Question #1: Should I buy a PS4?
Question #2: Are you thinking about college?
Question #3: What is your favorite juice? And do you actually have a juice cup?

Apply that philosophy to all areas of your life, and I suspect you'll be pleased with the results.

We like our Texans in this guild - welcome!

Well, then, what's your favorite smell?
Hm.
Maybe coffee! Garlic in hot oil. Coriander (the ground seeds or the leaves).
I can say that fish sauce is my least favorite. I don't mind the taste at all, but fermented fish is something I never need to smell.
I'm pretty neutral on human body odor. Sometimes it's offensive, but sometimes I kind of like it!

the write up about the 5 dirty words of gaming
You have it right. The title was inspired by a legendary comic bit by George Carlin:

(NSFW, maybe offensive, and absolutely brilliant)
Thanks for sharing about yourself so generously - I commend your courage. I'm not playing ESO but I hope you stick around and enjoy our community!

Great intro post. I'm not playing ESO but I think we're going to be friends!

I don't think anyone has ever asked me this question tbh.

Awesome. One minor clarification - I think you mean Cohort, right?

One small housekeeping item: some of the pinned posts on the Policy & Leadership forum are now outdated.
May I nominate you to huddle with Fera and suggest some edits or archiving as appropriate?

Looks like something's happening here?

This is always interesting. When I first joined SoH, it took me a bit to map even Forum names to WoW names. Then there was the layer of voices to Mumble names to WoW names to Forum names. After a while, the voices became very distinct and the mapping was clear.......then I joined Pink and I had to start all over again.
Using real names can be a bit......meh. Let's pick on Cal. Technically, Cal's real name is longer than his WoW name -- am I ever going to call him his real name? No. Why? B/c it's easier to say Cal.
Then, there are preferences -- perhaps, Ashin has a quirk where he doesn't want to be called Bob (it is Bob, right?!). So now, we all have to call him Bobster. I have to remember to say, "DI me, Bobster!" -- rather than seeing Warlock w/name Ashin and using that name.
The easiest way I've found to associate voices with players, is to focus in on a certain quality that creates a distinction. When I first joined Pink, I had a difficult time with Ashin v. Sol v. Feja (and don't bring up the solo Monitor detail!); on Purple, I had a Mord v. Luc confusion for a bit. I made myself focus on details:
- Feja - sounds like he is driving by in a car while trying to say his sentence
- Korrek - always very boisterous -- typically can hear Adele in the background
- JJ - all twang, all the time; can hear a big grin on his face when he's pleased with himself (which is always )
- Ashin - you can hear a furrowed brow
- Sol - interesting slow/quick cadence
- Hip - growl to twang
- Cal - sentences usually punctuated with laughing/bit of an echo
- Dev - soft-spoken, slight detection of a twang
- Nen - at times, quick and forceful
- Duke - crazy accent (still working on this one)
Totes helpful, right?
I just re-read this thread while in the process of archive / cleanup / re-org.
First, I was impressed by what a dick I was in my initial response to Corben.
But then I found this gem. I LOVE that Korrek's memory prompt was "typically can hear Adele in the background" !

Restated: can existing guild members form an SOH guild in a game before it turns into a cohort proper, provided we aren't recruiting new members?
Yes.

I might pick up a ps4 - but that can’t interact with PC players?

Congratulations to @Rahk Aorm on his promotion to Member!

Just a tiny update that I asked other Council folks to help out getting comma set up since I’m still settling in to my new place. We also still need to sort out a few forum structure things as far as council, vets, etc.
But consider yourselves free to recruit while everything is under construction.
-
Just popping in to say that I’m watching the thread. I’m not crystal clear on whether we have three vets or not - Simone you can count yourself as one of them.
Im a little curious about the game, since it advertises that you can play it as single player for the story. But I’m not really gaming atm so I don’t want to count myself as one of the three!

Cohort status approved! I’ll type more and do things on the morning.

Will there continue to be a place on the forum for that discussion
We will probably retire the applicant review forums and replace them with a general purpose Veterans lounge.. although I don't really want too much communication to potentially shift from Member forums to a Vets forum, so I do need to think on that some.

I do have a thought on the recruitment process: Two votes of confidence represent two veteran members who have had positive experiences with a recruit. What if a 3rd has a negative experience?
That's a good question.
Practically speaking (see what I did there?) I think that the few times when we have concerns about a recruit, they tend to be pretty widely shared. I can remember a few times when most folks found someone to be fine, but one person had a personality conflict or bad experience. In those kinds of cases, I think it becomes the responsibility of the Vet(s) to communicate with each other. For example: "hey - I know that you recently sponsored Ashin, and I want to let you know that I had a pretty bad encounter with him over the weekend." Etc.
That is going to be a general theme: with the new privilege of recruitment, Vets will need to take more responsibility for the outcome.
