85 Sub Rogue introduction

I guess I'll start my introduction with a bit about my history within WoW.

I started playing shortly after WotLK was released after watching RL friends play the game for years. My first character was my rogue. I had no idea how to play him, what the stats meant, what any of the fancy terms anybody used were (what's an "aggro" and how did I get one? Further, if it's so bad, why does that guy with the shield want it so bad??). After a couple months I had my first 80... a Prot Paladin. I'd given up on the rogue as my intellect swords weren't stabbing the NPCs very hard, and I certainly didn't feel like I was smart about attacking when that guy with the skull by his name lol'd at me and 1 shot me. Anyway, somewhere along the way I got sick of asking my RL friends questions (that they couldn't or wouldn't answer) so I started reading. And I read... and I read... and I read. Around 60 I learned what PVP was and realized that it was kinda hard to kill me. I liked it.

I hit 80 with my first toon about 2 months after I started playing, just busting ass and questing like a mad man. Gearing was pretty quick as all the dailies I'd been doing while leveling paid off and I soon made the jump from helping members of my new guild gear with heroics to being asked to OT one night in Naxx. It went well. So well I ended up being offered a permanent position as an OT, later becoming the MT, and eventually a raid officer. After a few months I had to quit for the next year to go out of state to take care of my grandmother. I came back in the spring of last year to a radically different game in some aspects. What do you mean the gear in 5 mans is better than my Ulduar/Naxx25 gear? After a couple weeks my pally just wasnt doing it for me anymore, so I decided ok, you know things now, how about you finish leveling that rogue? Sparing the details (too late?) I again found myself raiding, but from a different outlook. I loved DPS. In a little under a 5k GS I was doing between 10-14k dps in ICC10.

I PVPd here and there, but never got very good at it. Spent the rest of Wrath leveling my Shaman.

In cataclysm I decided I wanted a break from raiding. I felt too comfortable in PVE and wanted to shake things up a bit. So I transferred my rogue Horde and started reading up on lore. I'm not a super lore nerd, but I definitely try to take in as much of it as possible when playing video games. My girlfriend (who I met raiding with my Ally guild) had finished leveling her Pally to 85 so we started doing BGs. We found a new love for the game. Now we're obsessed. After finally giving arenas a try we stopped being afraid of new aspects of the game and wondered why we had never tried it before. We're not gladiators by any means but we're starting to get much better, now ending our weeks with a positive win-loss ratio and usually having a blast doing it.

The problem we've encountered is within our guild. We're the only two people on. We leveled it to 4 mostly by ourselves. Everybody has transferred their mains to a different server to raid with old RL friends and old guildies, and now it's pretty much just us and a couple of our old close ally friends who rerolled with us. Now we look for people to BG and wander around completing achievements with, or whatever other random things sound fun. We're PVP focused but we're always more interested in fun over just getting gear. The gear is the carriage and the fun is the horse.

My question for SoH would be are you interested in new members who have a PVP focus? We're not opposed to raiding and if the need is there we don't mind gearing to help, but our main goal is PVP. We love it. I know some guilds are looking for specific members to do specific things. We just want to make friends. We want people who are down to have fun and stab/slam/nuke/trip/tickle ally (in particular, our old guildies :D), and we want them to want us. We're very peaceful. You wont see us QQing. We are fully capable of discussing and debating things, but I'm 27 and she's 28 so we're pretty good about refusing to breakdown in to childish kicking and screaming.

I hope to hear from you guys soon. We're on almost every night and almost all day on sundays and mondays and would be glad to talk to anybody, whether over realid or vent/teamspeak. If you're looking for a couple of PVPnuts we're definitely looking for you :)

I want to hire you as a motivational speaker! We have too many folks that are still intimidated by arenas, and could learn from your experiences. =)

I really like that you took the time to explain where you're coming from in such detail. And I want to answer your question, "would be are you interested in new members who have a PVP focus?"

The short answer is "definitely", but the longer answer involves some caveats. Right now I am very focused on implemented our dual-team model for 10-man raiding. It has been a long journey and it is taking us many weeks to bring on board the right match of skill/personality/class. I still have four slots left to fill, and I can't imagine embarking on any other project until this one is complete. My raiders have been patient and expect to follow through on "the plan".

In the future, I absolutely want to launch a rated BG team, in addition to our two 10-man raiding teams. While I have tried to recruit raiders who enjoy PvP, it became clear to me after a few passes at rated BG's that this was a sport which requires every bit as much dedication and focus as raiding does. Actually Malthas warned of this possibility many moons ago and I should have listened. So what I had envisioned in my mind was a roadmap that looked something like this: (1) complete the dual 10-man raiding teams, (2) complete a 10-man BG team (may overlap with raiders ofc), (3) organize an "alt" raid comprised of PvP'ers, social members, and alts of existing raiders.

Phew! That's a big plan and is taking me much longer than I had anticipated. But we are fussy around here, so the member-building process is slow.

In essence, your application is ahead of its time. I can't offer you a spot in our raids; we already have a rogue-in-waiting that we need to take care of in addition to our core raiders. Our needs might change, but that's where they stand today. But we have members who would love to have more people to play with in random BG's, or make a 5-man arena team with, for example. So if you are interested in applying to the guild, knowing that we probably couldn't bring you to our raids in the short or medium-term future, I certainly won't hesitate to accept your application as a social/pvp member. Some nights we are not hitting our XP cap for guild leveling, and so we could really use more social members. In return, we can offer you some nice perks and a far-from-silent guild chat.

So, let me know what you think, and thank you for the application.

Ashin, you had me with how pleasant you were to briefly speak with last night. Playing this game for as long as many have these days it's far too easy to have a heightened sense of self worth and ego. What really drew me to your guild was how you all carry yourselves; with class, strength of mind, determination but also with respect. Sometimes the balance for all those things is difficult for some people to keep. I would love to help get the pvp groups going. I remember looking at people in wrathful gear and thinking "that stuff is so cool. Sucks I'll never get it" and now arenas are my favorite part of the week. Even once honor capped I plan to keep bging, so any time members are looking for a rogue to qeue with I'd be glad to. And I don't rage. Being a sub rogue/prot pally comp we've had quite a few challenges in our short time in arenas, but that comes with the territory of starting something new. I've lost us a match, she's lost us a match, but we don't care. We have a blast whether were winning or losing.

I also will be finishing up my degree on psychology when I finally get back to school and should have my personal training certs soon as well, so pep talks are kinda my thing lol :) I work late during the week but I'm always home by around 12:30 est and Sundays have been our arena days. Anybody even remotely interested in arenas id be glad to group with. I'm not worried about my rating, we've been going for points and the experience, so don't worry that you shouldnt ask because you'll mess up my rating. Once we get our rbg group off the ground and learn team tactics and are all geared, then well worry about getting those shiny 2200 weapons :)

I also read obsessively at work about other classes (so I can kill them) and picked up a bit about how to play them as well, so if you need advice or want to practice dueling or whatever you feel will help with pvp, ask and I'd be happy to help :)

So if that was an offer to join this is my official "hell yeah!"

[wall of text crits for 9001!!!]. :D

Hey Nahsin. Just to give you further warning, we are *mostly* an EST guild. So while there are still folks on after midnight, the guild will tend to be quiet for you. Our "primetime" is 8pm EST to 12am EST, on weeknights. Weekends are more of an all-day / all-night thing.

That's ok! Our old guild had nobody on ever, but our ally guild always has between 10-30 people on. I'm pretty self-entertaining, I'm just really looking forward to having a group of people to do things with whenever we decide to set up events/games and I'm happy that my contributions will actually affect more than just me and my girlfriend.

Lately we've been doing all the old achievements for Glory of the Hero to get our Red Proto Drakes as well, if anybody is interested on joining in. Even when we have all of them we'll be glad to help others get theirs.

Also my work schedule may be changing to 4-10s soon with tuesday-thursday off. Right now I have sundays and mondays off. I'll keep you updated on that but I was thinking it would be nice if we could set up most of our core PVP stuff so that it is not interfering with raid times. I'd like for anybody who wants to be involved in the PVP aspect of the game to feel like they don't have to pick or rush to make games.
