  1. Wifey is trying to get me to post to social media twice a day in the run up to the stream, which is really demanding when I usually only post once a week... I got some help from my daughters this morning though. https://www.facebook.com/nathan.tabbert/videos/10154099153459123 (public post, you don't have to sign up for Facebook Ashin...)
  2. I've got my incentives (almost) ready! - Using a busted up old brown footrest and a claymore sword one of my friends gave me years ago in CO, we're going to recreate the 'Sword in the Stone'. Every $5 donation will add a decoration to the hilt, ranging from Mardi Gras beads, zipties, necklaces, bandannas, and anything else I can think of. - During the Team Fortress 2 stream, I'll be running a giveaway with each entry costing $5. The winner gets a TF2 figurine mailed to them. - I'm going to wear a plain white t-shirt for the whole stream, and every time someone donates $10, one of my daughters will draw, paint, or pin something to the t-shirt. I will also wear the shirt out of the house for some sort of errand. - I'm going to buy a $25 Steam gift card and a $25 Amazon gift card. Every $25 donation earns a chance to win a gift card, drawings will happen at the halfway point and at the end of the stream. - I'm trying to come up with another prize for the $50 bracket. Wifey knows a bunch of artsy types and might try to get a donated piece of art that we can give away for everyone that hits $50.
  3. You're going to want to look into a relatively high-quality camera to be able to capture a large group of ppl playing a console game (unless I missed you mention you had a capture card). Another option is to use something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pas.webcam&hl=en to stream from your phone to your computer, where you can further stream it onto Twitch. You'll also have to remember to check your Twitch chat every once in a while to interact with everyone. I'm planning to have my Twitch stream up on my tablet while I'm streaming from my phone's camera.
  4. XSplit is much more intuitive than OBS, I've used OBS in the past and was amazed at how much easier it was to set up XSplit.
  5. I've got my XSplit all set up on my computer, should be easy enough to do on the other computer. We won't be able to use the PS3 as I expected because I didn't realize you needed a capture card, and I'm not paying $100 for one. I've got my phone set up as a pretty sweet mobile webcam, so I'll be able to stream us playing board games. I'm also playing around with XSplit, I should be able to stream from Skype, so I'll be able to play some 2-player games (Don't Starve Together, Torchlight, etc) with my Skype stream from my son's webcam overlaid and streamed to my Twitch. I'm going to step up my social media game over the next week with some of these amazing videos. I'm aiming to have my pledge rewards up today or tomorrow. Lastly, check out my swanky stream overlay!
  6. SOH's Extra Life campaign is picking up steam, but it's not too late to join! http://www.sohguild.com/index.php?/topic/17765-south-of-heaven-does-extra-life-2015/

  7. Alright, I'd like to set a couple goals to complete before the end of this weekend. Streamers -- 1. Get all your hardware and software set up. It only takes a $10 donation to get the XSplit license, which is what I plan on using for my stream. Set up your Twitch stream and make sure it works with whatever platforms you intend to stream on. 2. Update your home page on Extra-Life.org and add a picture (I'm guilty of not doing this yet myself). 3. Link your page at least once on FB or Twitter or both, to keep reminding people that you're fundraising. 4. Come up with your basic list of perks, goals, & stretch goals. Supporters -- 1. Consider becoming a streamer! I'd like to expand our team to at least five, ideally ten, we've got so many great people here I'm sure we can do that. You don't have to stream for 24 hours straight - you can cut it into smaller chunks if you'd like. The only requirement is a willingness to do what it takes (including a bit of embarrassment!) to raise money for a great cause. 2. Help spread the word to your friends & family by linking to our team page & mentioning the Extra Life campaign in-game. 3. Plan to participate in the 'Team Fortress 2 Night' on Saturday night. I'd like to get a good SOH group together so we can fill up a server.
  8. How do you guys feel about having a SOH-wide FPS event that night? We've always TALKED about playing TF2 together... but never actually done it. I've just turned the Wifey loose on my page and the team's page. She's a social media & marketing genius. For all I know, we'll have $10k in donations by tomorrow. Edit: Some good links. Here is a multimedia kit, which I'm going to use to customize my stream overlay (you really need an overlay so you aren't repeating your donation URL every five minutes). Here is a video on some cool ideas for what to do with your stream.
  9. My games list is going to depend on the whims of my kids, who will likely be driving the first 8 hours of the stream. It could be anything from my Steam library or our PS3 collection, though I'm expecting a lot of Minecraft, Disney Infinity, and Octodad. My middle daughter has dreams of being a YouTube star and has recorded probably a hundred hours of herself gaming while laughing like a maniac, getting reminded to do chores, forgetting she's 'streaming' and going quiet for long periods... it should be a good time, hahaha.
  10. After waiting all weekend to try and catch both of them online at the same time, I've given up! So I'm announcing our first two homegrown EVE recruits on the forums! Congrats Ronran & Scynner for promotion to member. You are now doomed to wander various deadly parts of New Eden with us. Huzzah!?

  13. One of the best prizes this year is one of the cheapest, the $10 3-month XSplit license. That's what I used to stream last year and it worked great. http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1088 Cryus, you absolutely don't have to take the week before off - I was already planning to spend that week knocking out my last few tourist spots here in DC/Maryland/Virginia before I realized it was also the week before Extra Life.
  14. BUMP! I'm about to put in my leave for the whole week before the game day, so that's when you can expect to see Tyrlis chattering endlessly about reward levels and marketing strategies, etc. But don't you want to join the team BEFORE I get that crazy? I thought so. C'mon friends. You don't have to play all day long. You can spread the time out over multiple days!
  15. For a hi-sec miner trying to make life difficult for CODE, I think the DC2 is clear...
  16. Denards I just saw what you wrote in SOHCO Private about CODE. Those guys are basically just hi-sec griefers who have fun and make isk by harassing miners like your friend. - your friend needs to go mine somewhere other than Amarr. He should also fit some tank on his Venture, an adaptive invuln and a medium shield extender would make it much harder for them to gank him. Something like this: https://o.smium.org/loadout/private/48117/6587716921318178816
  17. I'm going to upgrade your forum account to Recruit. That will allow you to view our EVE forums and the information overload they represent. Let me point out some highlights... - Our guild has pretty high standards of behavior and conduct. Please read the Code of Conduct and post your understanding so we know you've read it. - The EVE Online Chapter Policy forums has a pile of information about how our corp operates in EVE. Of particular importance, here are instructions for joining our in-game chat channel and here is an explanation of our in-game rank structure. - Peruse our Reference forums which are chock full of information that will help you handle that learning curve. Take as long as you like in hi-sec before and coming out to null, it's a big transition and it's better if you're ready. But if you want to jump in, you can register for the NAGA TS3 once you've joined the corp, that's where we are most of the time. Some of us have limited playtime, so we use the forums a lot to discuss happenings in the game and plans for once we're actually able to log on. I'll be sending you a PM soon with even MORE words to read.
  18. You said you like strategy games like Civ 5... then you listed Dota and WoW. What? Explain yourself. What is your opinion on hummus? The US Army has Warrant Officer through Chief Warrant Officer Five. Is Master Warrant Officer like a CW5? If so, are you that cranky dude with the coffee that tells everyone else they're stupid but never gets in trouble for it?
  19. Hey man, I don't have time to answer your post properly right now, but each person gets their own thread so I split yours out of Giao's. I look forward to everyone harassing you with questions!
  20. Hey Joe, since you've decided to wait a little while before actually joining us I'm going to set your rank back to 'Stranger'. Nothing personal, just security.
  21. Hey there! TBert here. I have questions! What do you guard? I had a friend who posted nothing but Ark pictures to her FB feed for like three weeks straight. What's the deal with that game? The only survival game I've ever really played was Rust. I still think I should get to call you Joe, but you don't seem amenable. I will endeavor to find a name that is still wrong, but close enough that you can't help but sigh and allow me to use it anyway. Jiggy, perhaps...
  22. It seems I'm the only one with harassing questions prepared. - Since you're still relatively new to EVE, also peruse our Reference forums which are chock full of information that will help you handle that learning curve. Take as long as you like in hi-sec before accepting the corp invite and coming out to null, it's a big transition and it's better if you're ready. 23. Hey Scynner! Thanks for putting in an app! My in-game name is TBert. Our alliance executor is actually Canadian. I've had a few late-night talks with him about Canadian Army culture vs. US Army culture. The differences are pretty interesting. Have you ever had a dangerous encounter with a moose? What's your RL job? If you say you make a living brewing beer, I'm going to be very jealous. You mentioned that you lived in lo-sec for a while. Were you a PvP'er, FW'er, mission-runner? Lo-sec's rules were so weird to us when we started playing, we got blown up by the gate guns a few times trying to find a fight...
  24. And with that you've passed the first test. That wasn't hard, right? I'm going to upgrade your forum account to Recruit and send you an invite in-game. That will allow you to view our EVE forums and the information overload they represent. Let me point out some highlights... - Our guild has pretty high standards of behavior and conduct. 25. Ronran! Thanks for posting your app, sorry it took me so long to respond. Like Ashin, this is my 3rd time subbing to EVE, and it hooked me good. We hit a year in December... What are your favorite strategy games? Are you a more methodical Civ/CK2 kind of guy? Or do you yearn for the intense, constant clicking of SC2? What is your degree in? Were you able to find work in that field? Lastly, what's your favorite method of consuming caffeine? Intravenously IS an option.
