This week's discussion in my class was on our opinions on the tax system. One person wrote that she didn't think the progressive tax system is fair and thinks we should go to a flat tax. Minimum of 50 word response took me about 400 words to write. Do you think it was a bit much?

nope, a flat tax is a regressive tax that disproportionately effects the lower and middle class. It amazes me that people think a flat tax is "fair."

Lots of peeps just don't get it. Personally, I'm a fan of a luxury tax system. Basic food, clothing, healthcare & transportation, etc, go untaxed. I mean, really, who "needs" a Mercedes or a mink coat? ^^

I agree with the above statements. The tiered tax sydtem, while not ideal is in reality much more fair than a flat system.
