Huntyre
I just saw this and had to share it. lol http://www.huffingto..._n_1812069.html While much of North Korea remains shrouded in mystery, the country's young leader Kim Jong Un has tried to cast his country in a different light than under his notorious father Kim Jong Il. Kim the junior recently made a public appearance with his wife, Ri Sol Ju, at an amusement park, where they saw dolphins and rode a few rides. The young leader appeared to be having the time of his life on one particular ride. In an equally surprising turn, North Korean TV recently broadcast Disney characters, something atypical for the Western-averse, state-run media. All signs point to Kim Jong Un trying to present a cuddlier, more family-friendly image to the world. And that's why this photo is such an epic fail. Look for yourself: While the photo seems to fill the young leader with joy, the family he poses with can't look anything but terrified. The woman in the blue shirt looks near tears. Perhaps North Koreans have different customs when it comes to posing for photos. Or perhaps saying "Cheese" with a totalitarian ruler is just that frightening. Noesis
I've seen this photo everywhere and some people had some interesting takes on it. If you think of how brainwashed a lot of North Koreans are you can understand that they might be brought tears of joy from seeing their leader. People have been suggesting that these looks on their faces are tears, but of joy by being blessed with the presence of their leader. It's kind of like the sad tearful faces of women being touched by Hitler. Although the woman on the right, in the white top, looks like she wants to kill him. Noesis
I.. don't think so. The woman in the pink is the greatest example of this.
discofire
It's likely he will loosen things up (compared to his dad), but I don't doubt people are still terrified, and will be for some time.
Tyrlis
It's interesting, they look relatively well dressed for average North Koreans. Maybe they were picked and dolled up for the picture and only realized seconds before the picture was taken that it was KJU they were posing with. So they're surprised AND scared out of their wits. I'm amazed the NK didn't just hire models to pose with him in front of a random building.
