World Of Warcraft - Holy Paladin Application

Also, I tried out eternal flame and divine purpose last night.

Was very wierd playing like a druid on my paly at times watching HoT timers on people. Basically I was keeping it up on the tanks and anyone esle I could. Was averaging 3 flames running at once (spiking to 5 with lucky divine purpose procs).

I wish we had run WoL to get an idea, but at least according to skada, on the dogs I was doing about the same as my old holy avenger/SS spec. For Feng, I played around a bit, but found the holy avenger skill better as I could actively control my holy powerx3 to better match a missed epicenter instead of relying on the RNG for divine purpose. .

Very interesting though. totally different style of playing. I bet if I try this for a week, I can really get an idea of the flow for healing with eteranl flames. But I bet htat some fights favor one style and others favor my old style. Either way, I always have 20 tomes to flip my spec on the fly for each fight. Which is why blizz designed fights this way, as we can change our spec to best suit each encounter without going to a trainer

yeah, I have been throwing that into my rotation but not enough as I should. I will def throw that in (prob best for example to use it on Feng when epicenters go off or when he's burning off his stacks)

Yea I was sad to not see any Divine Favor use with people dying on velocities, incredible throughput buff. Holy Avenger + Divine Favor = Win for Arcane Velocities.

Just some food for thought on those velocities that popped into my noggin: Pre load 4-5 Holy Power + Daylight buff(1 holy radiance) few seconds before Velocity. Velocity inc, insta LoD, pop HA+DF, hopefully crit Holy Shock with 45% extra crit chance and does aoe healing cause daylight, another 3 HP LoD, 1sec cast time Holy Radiance, 3 HP LoD again. Would be a substantial burst in healing and decently mana efficient because of multiple free LoDs and extra 20% extra crit(passively saves you mana from doing more healing...if it crits).

Holy Paladins seem to allow for diverse talents choices depending on the fight compared to most others. Like I don't see Holy Avenger being as useful on a fight like H Stone Guard compared to Divine Purpose with the consistent raid damage. Whereas velocities on H Feng is ridiculously bursty in comparison so relying on a random proc during those phases isn't as helpful as Holy Avenger throughput would be.

for tank/raid CDs, I am the heal co-ordinator in Artifice and I brought what we used in The Dauntless with me to Artifice. All healers have a macro that broadcasts to the next person in the chain that they are the next to use their CD.

So if I use devo aura, it annouces to the next person (lets say a druid) that they are next in line, We go around the raid CDs as needed until it gets back to me to start the chain bakc up. We use the same system for tank CDs.

That's interesting, is it just a say, yell, or whisper macro? However I imagine that would be ineffective on certain fights and would require your healers to proactively change it. For example since Devo Aura only affects magic damage, on encounters that do raid wide physical damage, like Garalons crush or Wind Lords Rain of Blades, the say chain would be broken. I guess that wouldn't be a big deal though to quickly fix over mumble/vent.

I've found RSA to be incredible. It can be configured to say, yell, whisper, and raid warning whatever you want when you use any cooldown; it can be disabled for non important ones too. Also there's Hermes, keeps track of all healer raid and single target cooldowns that I choose it to show with an icon and timer. If I know something specific is coming up, or shit's gonna hit the fan, I'll glance at it and tell someone to use theirs.

I will look into that mod[OmniCC] as well if I find I am loosing my mind with all the CDs. But so far, it's been pretty good.

Ah I'm surprised you haven't heard of it, its an extremely popular addon(15th on curse) and I feel like its practically required for raiding. To know the exact second a CD will be up prior to a specific DBM timer is invaluable.

Seems you're not much into customizing your interface with addons, but have you ever considered using custom raid frames? I can't imagine healing as effectively without my Vuhdo setup.

As for the 80 stats to chest VS the 200 Spr. I have been toying with that idea. Since I could get 80 int and 80 spr.

In the end, the extra 120 spirit ~= 67 mp5 combat regen, most of our progression fights seem to be ~8mins so that pans out to ~6432 extra mana, not enough for an extra spell. Compare that to having a bit more int on every heal you cast the whole fight. Overall it doesn't make or break anything, just something to think about :).

Well since I won't be on Saturday good luck with the chat, that is assuming you two are able to get together :).

thanks for the idea on velocities. I will def try that out. I was gonna start looking at logs to see how we can basically heal thorugh the transition as efficiently as possible right at the start. Both 25 man kills we had (this week and last week) we've transitionned while Feng still had stacks up so we loose 2 or 3 people as we spread out to not all kill ourselves with the resonance.

As for the macro, we have a healer channel in game as well.I forced every healer (since not everyone has the same mods nor can due to PC specs, etc) to join the channel and all their CDs are as follows

/cast "spell name"

/w "next person in chain" [star][triangle][star] "Spell name" used!!! You are next!!!![star][triangle][star]

/"healer channel" [star][triangle][star] "Spell name" used!!! You are next!!!![star][triangle][star]

All raid CDs are like this...all tank CDs are [cross][square][cross].

This way when they see pink (or whatever color their /w is) in their periferial vision in chat, they know they are next in line for their chain and the color coded icons help know if it was a tank or raid CD and all healers in teh healer channel can see that a CD was used and to just keep an eye on their periferial vision for their /w. On each fight, I may not have the same healers, so at the start of the night, we set the rotation and people modify 2 lines on their macros just to /w the right person in a chain. Most bosses raid wide abilities are spells so my devo is ok, but if I am not going to be benefitial since it's physical, I would just remove myself from the rotation. There is still some talk on vent for us if someone dies for example and is out of turn but I co-ordinate it all. tank CDs are harder since I only have our healers in there and our tanks don't talk or do this as they don't see the need. So we just work as if they had none. Sad I know...they just don't communicate.

The raid CD thing may be good but someone has to start it off and the next has to know when to go. So I just control it all that way. the CD would be good in my case just cause when someone dies, I can just look at it and say in vent to my next healer to go...but then others may not know why.

putting this in multiple replies as to not get a wall of text :)

For the raid frames. I have grown quite used to them. Including the blizz threat meter. I can see when someone is pulling threat really easy (hand of Salving them right away). I can see all the debuffs (arrows from Spirit kings, voodoo dolls, the ability to port out of spirit world on garaj, etc) now, if for some reason I couldn't see it, I would likely get a mod to track a specific debuff (Sinestra's debuff for example that needed to be cleansed at certain stacks) but most times I am just the tank healer in those cases.

I tried using other UI mods, but I found them so time consuming to fix and come patch day, I couldn't raid if some add on wasn't updated, So I got used to hte Blizz ones (the old ones were fun, black background, no resource bars, debuffs in every corner Magin at top right, curse at bottom right, poison at top left, etc...). They'd gotten so much better due to the modding community pushing them to make their own better.

Mine looks bad due to the extra column in LFR to identify the 2 main tanks. but in a raid, usually tanks are either indicated by role (if you do a role check) or they are in the same group (most stack them in group 1) so this column is not on as most people don't set Main tank and main assist in the blizz UI since almost no one uses it

I am really going to think hard about this. You guys seem to be very well organized and a very friendly bunch of people from what I gathered from your forums.

I have been staying up until midnight playing WoW/watching TV to see how my RL work would be affected. I am a light sleeper and it usually takes me 30 min to an hour to fall asleep. So I've been testing it all this week and I am feeling it at work.

Gonna be thinking very hard about this today cause I've been quite beat Wed, and Thursday and now today...I really am interested but do not want to make this jump if I can't be 100% during the raid cause I'm fallin at the keyboard. There are so many things in play for me on this decision so I am thinking hard about it and what I am willing to give up and move around in my schedule to accomodate this. I'll keep you all informed.

I am very interested, just want to be sure I can work and play and be at 100% for it all.

It's an interesting solution you developed to coordinate healer and tank cooldowns.

I'm disappointed to hear that you think our schedule may not work out, but I understand that you need to prioritize your job performance etc. I think you should probably make a decision about that before we take time for a mumble interview. But I am online most of the morning and afternoon on Saturday and Sunday, so I will not be hard to find via b.net. Just let me know what you decide.

for sure, I would not waste your time. I am gonna think hard about it. I'll keep you informed before the interview.

yeah, the healer CD co-ordination, I wish I could tak ecredit for it. but it was one of the things I brought with me from my time in "The dauntless" on Medivh. They had that all set up before I joined them and I just brought it back with me when I started playing WoW again with Artifice.

The dauntless even used it for their DPS and tanks, each role had it. They had a similar setup for interrupts for their DPS. For Nefarian 25 heroic they had it all set up so they each knew who was the next in line on each platform.

I really hate to say this, but I will have to reconsider on my end. You guys sound really cool and I think I'd have fun here. I just can't make the times. I thought 30 min later than my current time would not be so bad, but unfortunately, it actually is when I include the "cool off" time where my brain has to slow down and get to sleep.

I wish you guys the best and I know you guys are progressing right now which makes this even harder for me to say no to.

But I want to thank you guys for the time and also the tips you gave me to help me improve my performance.
